SOUND FORGE« DIRECTX COMPATIBILITY Sound Forge integrates installed DirectX audio plug-ins into its editing environment. Once you're familiar with using some of the standard tools, effects, and processing functions included with Sound Forge, there are only a few new things you need to know. Real-Time vs. Non Real-Time Previews One of the coolest features of DirectX audio plug-ins is the ability to preview the function's effect in real time. This means that as you change parameters while previewing, changes are almost instantaneous to the sound. What this allows you to do is quickly tweak parameters until you're satisfied with the sound you're getting. 16 vs. 24-bit processing The DirectX architecture allows for audio to be handed to the different transforms in a variety of formats. Sound Forge supports 8 and 16-bit integer and 24-bit float audio formats. The 24-bit float format really occupies 32-bits, with 24-bits allocated for the mantissa, but this should concern only computer scientists and mathematicians. The formats supported by the plug-in are determined by the plug-in's developer. Back to Sound Forge |
